Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

This is a great little drone, however, it takes a lengthy amount of programming and set up. You must bind the drone to your receiver, you must also flash the firmware (because it’s shipped with an incompatible version for betaflight), in order to setup the drone. Next you must adjust all the settings and alarms (the low-battery alarm is programmed improperly). I struggled with betaflight, set up, binding, and programming (driver errors, downloads, fixes) for almost 2 days in order to be able to use it. Don’t forget to calibrate the accelerator for stable flight (this is critical!), use a mug or cup to keep your drone level with the USB plugged in to BetaFlight for easy accelerometer calibration. I also use a mug for stability in take off as well. Once it’s all set up and programmed properly the drone functions and flys amazing. Both my 14 yr old son and I take turns flying all over the house and outside. I would highly recommend purchasing 4-6 extra batteries due to the fact that total flight time is only about 2-3 minutes and charging time 30-60mins. I would also recommend a multi-port USB adapter to quickly charge them at the same time (available here on Amazon, 2 four port chargers for $12). There are lots of YouTube setup walkthrough videos for this drone and it was the only way I was able to work my way through the setup and numerous issues. Be patient, take your time, and breathe, it’s all worth it in the end!

The Mobula7 is a really nice little whoop class quad and in my opinion would make a perfect second quad after someone learns the basics with a brushed whoop. I still consider myself a noob in the RC hobby only into it in the past few years after coming back to it after decades. I've acquired a few quads in the last few years, a couple of mini's and a couple of micro's aka tiny whoops. I found that I have the most fun flying the whoops. The one issue a had with the whoops I had was the 1s battery limit and the brushed motors. 1s is fine most of the time zipping around indoors, sometimes I just wanted a bit more power available when flying outside to fight the wind, and when I fly I run through a lot of packs which meant I wore out motors rather quickly. The Mobula7 basically covered both of those issues giving me the option of 1s or 2s for batteries, and brushless motors that will hold up better to just flying about air you wearing out.

Is the Mobula7 perfect? Well nothing is perfect, but sometimes things are pretty close and the Mobula 7 is for me. I still think people wanting to try the hobby should start with a brushed whoop the Mobula7 is the perfect next step for new and casual hobbyists to continue learning the skills and maintenance/repair/tweaking knowledge you'll need for the larger quads.

2020 Update: I’ve now moved on to the Beta85 Beta 85 Pro 2 which is better than this in every way. Better camera, range, performance, durability. I rip these outside. I wouldn’t recommend either for indoor flying. The Tiny Hawk S is way better indoors but I think the Mobula is better outside. My original Mobula is still flying after 2 years of put putting it through hell and probably close to 300 flights. I’ve replaced 4 motors and now the camera is blurry. The V3/Trashcan frame is still holding up but the V2 flies better with less washout. The flight control board (main computer) is now an old design. The battery connectors lead to voltage safe and apparently those who upgraded to XT30 often blew out their boards.(2018 Update - If you get the V2 frame this thing is 5 Stars!!!)+Flys great! This quad is so quick and responsive. It is a true joy to fly!+Nice features (on screen display, smart audio, tilting camera, lost buzzer).-The frame is made from nacho chips. It breaks in 5-10 mph crashes.-The camera is a little darker than my King Kong /LDARC Tiny6X.-With this kind of speed, it would be nice to have a more powerful video transmitter but now that I’ve flown it more, I’ve found that this one works pretty well.Verdict: A ripping good time as long as you don’t mind spending your time and money making repairs after almost every flight. I keep patching the frames with Welder brand glue. My first frame broke in 12 places before it was unusable. My second one already has even more breaks and I’ve had to patch in missing pieces. I just ordered several of the Mobula V2 frames which are supposed to be tougher (I just tried the V2 frame and it is great. Much more durable although it did break after several hard crashes). Now I see that they are releasing an even stronger but heavier V3 frame.Flight Review: Flying 2s outdoors, I get 2:30-3:30 minutes flight time. The volts seem to sag pretty quickly but it still flys strong. It can do all sorts of rolls and flips that I never thought possible in a whoop this size. Flying 1s outdoors is better for beginners, but the flight time is more like 1:30-2:00 (although this is probably shortened due to the weight of all of the glue) and once you’re hooked on the 2s throttle punch, it’s hard to go back. Indoors, even 1s is can be tough because the throttle is sensitive (some expo could help that).Other Frames: According to online reviews, you need different screws and spacers to make the Beta FPV Pro frame work with this. GT7 frame won’t work. The Bwhoop75 frame is the same as the original delicate Mobula frame. I’ve ordered the Mobula V2 frame which is supposed to be light but more durable (but It’s still breakable). We’ll have to see if the V3 frame is too heavy or whether it’s the best. It is much more reinforced and looks like the Eachine Trashcan frame.OtherOptions (based on online reviews not personal experience): Emax Tiny Hawk (1s - slightly slower but more durable)Beta65/75X (Fast 2S + durable but not as nimble with more yaw washout)LDARC GT7 (2s but much slower + heavier + very durable)Future Products: If you can wait, they are supposed to be working on a new version of this Mobula, the 2s Tiny Hawk, or Eachine has a Trashcan model that people are saying will rule with better motors, stronger frame, F4 flight controller, and better video transmission.

Flying 1s outdoors is better for beginners, but the flight time is more like 1:30-2:00 (although this is probably shortened due to the weight of all of the glue) and once you’re hooked on the 2s throttle punch, it’s hard to go back. Indoors, even 1s is can be tough because the throttle is sensitive (some expo could help that).

Other Frames: According to online reviews, you need different screws and spacers to make the Beta FPV Pro frame work with this. GT7 frame won’t work. The Bwhoop75 frame is the same as the original delicate Mobula frame. I’ve ordered the Mobula V2 frame which is supposed to be light but more durable (but I’ve read that it is still breakable). We’ll have to see if the V3 frame is too heavy or whether it’s the best. It is much more reinforced and looks like the Eachine Trashcan frame.

OtherOptions (based on online reviews not personal experience): Emax Tiny Hawk (1s - slightly slower but more durable)
Beta65/75X (Fast 2S + durable but not as nimble with more yaw washout)
LDARC GT7 (2s but much slower + heavier + very durable)

Future Products: If you can wait, they are supposed to be working on a new version of this Mobula, the 2s Tiny Hawk, or Eachine has a Trashcan model that people are saying will rule with better motors, stronger frame, F4 flight controller, and better video transmission.
